Portable Temperature Control Systems
“…great joy arises from taking the laboratory to the study organism rather than vice versa.”
Per Scholander
The beginning
This temperature control system was first used to collect thermal tolerance data on bumble bees distributed across latitudinal and altitudinal gradients. We measured the thermal limits of more than 3,000 bumble bees by visualizing loss of critical muscle function at both cold and hot temperatures. Our research depended on the availability of equipment that was versatile and easily transported to field sites.
